Google Stadia Controller

Google Stadia controller is not entirely wireless

Google Stadia will be launching on November 19th next month however, Google has revealed that the wireless controller does actually need a wired connection. It will work wirelessly with the Chromecast Ultra and only with that at launch. To use the controller with computers or phones, gamers will need to use a USB-C cable.

In a new Stadia explainer video, Google added a disclaimer stating that the wireless play is limited just to the Chromecast Ultra at launch. Bluetooth will not be available at launch which means you will need a USB-C cable to connect the controller to a computer or mobile phone.

So while Google promised there would be seamless transition between platforms, it seems like this won’t be happening just yet. The developer is focused on getting wireless TV play right first before expanding it to the other platforms.

It’s unknown when the controller will become wireless for the other platforms but only a small number of people will have access to Google Stadia in November. Only those buying the Founder Edition will be given access in November, everyone else will get it in 2020.
